About the Resource
The U.S. Embassy & Consulates in India serve American residents and businesses to ensure they receive a full range of consular services and up-to-date security and general information, including assistance in emergencies and help with passports and visas, as well as promoting U.S.-India relations.
The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi, one of the largest U.S. diplomatic missions in the world, also hosts The American Center, a cultural hub and library, and the main office of the U.S. Commercial Service in India. The Embassy coordinates the activities of consulates in the following five districts:
- New Delhi (Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and the country of Bhutan)
- Chennai (Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands)
- Hyderabad (Southern India, including the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha)
- Kolkata (Eastern and Northeastern India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and West Bengal)
- Mumbai (Western India, including the states of Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Diu and Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli).
NOTE: As U.S. Consular operations in India are extremely busy, it is strongly recommended to book an appointment with the relevant office by phone or through the Embassy official website.
