Ancient Rome was build on seven hills on both shores of the Tiber river, in central Italy, not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its location contributes to the nice weather, with pleasant temperature and sunny days for many months every year.

Rome hosts the national government and many national and international institutions. Economy is mostly dominated by services, hi-tech companies, banking, and especially tourism. The latter has a huge impact on the city, as every year millions of tourists and pilgrims visit Rome and the Vatican City (in the center of Rome), creating a massive volume of revenue.
